The Birds
Hitchcock really is great at this kind of thing, and to make something as every day and harmless as birds become scary takes genuine skill and vision. The scene with the climbing frame is still ludicrously unsettling for what it is, and the silence is overwhelming. The fact that no explanation is ever given for the unfolding events is superb and there is a tension throughout that builds slowly from the beginning.
