]]>As if cleverly timed releases like Puppet Combo’s The Backrooms game weren’t enough (not to mention that Scary Movie poster poking fun at Parsons’ flick), McDonald’s official social media accounts have now released an analog horror video of their own celebrating the liminal terrors of the McRooms – complete with a familiar purple surprise at the end of the footage.
While it’s funny enough to see the world’s most recognizable Fast Food giant engage with internet-borne Found Footage thrills seemingly out of the blue, the video is actually referencing a long-running gag among the Backrooms fandom where creators jokingly talk about there being a fully functional McDonald’s restaurant hidden somewhere in level 0 of the infamous liminal labyrinth.
Now, would it be too much to hope for a moist-carpet-flavored McShake to tie in with the film?
Backrooms is now playing only in theaters from A24.

Leviticus is rated R for “Bloody violent content, language, some sexual content and teen drug use.” The film comes from writer-director Adrian Chiarella.
Joe Bird (Talk to Me) and Stacy Clausen play star-crossed teenage boys alongside a cast that includes Mia Wasikowska (Crimson Peak), Jeremy Blewitt, Ewen Leslie (The Nightingale), and Davida McKenzie (Silent Night).
“Leviticus is a strong debut with an incisive voice at the helm,” Meagan Navarro wrote in her review out of Sundance. “We care deeply about Naim and Ryan’s survival, making Leviticus a tense, atmospheric, and claustrophobic vision of young love in a hateful world.”
“Leviticus is the perfect title for writer-director Adrian Chiarella‘s powerful feature debut,” Meagan’s review explains, “a searing anthem against the corrosive nature of fear and bigotry.”
The film’s Rotten Tomatoes score is currently 96% with 26 reviews.

When some people say “best friends forever,” they really mean it. Not even death can keep Olivia and Aurora apart in My Best Friend’s Dead, now available on Digital today.
Produced by Traverse Terror (Antibirth, The Jester 2), Bruce Wemple (The Hangman, Dawn of the Beast) directs from a script by frequent collaborator Anna Shields.
In a remote New England town, a sweet young woman has closed herself off to the outside world since the tragic murder of her best friend.
When she tries to bring her soulmate back from the dead, the demon she has created follows her out into the real world and turns the quiet borough into a terrifying hellscape.
Caitlin Duffy stars with Shields, Grant Schumacher, and Catharine Daddario.

Jason Segel (“Shrinking”) and Samara Weaving (Ready or Not 2) keep their relationship as fresh as an open wound in Over Your Dead Body, now available on Digital.
In the remake of the 2021 Norwegian film The Trip, Segel and Weaving play a couple who head to a remote cabin to supposedly reconnect, but each has secret plans to kill the other.
The Lonely Island’s Jorma Taccone (Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, MacGruber) directs from a script by fellow “SNL” alumni Nick Kocher and Brian McElhaney.
Timothy Olyphant (“Alien: Earth”), Paul Guilfoyle (“CSI: Crime Scene Investigation”), Keith Jardine (Love Lies Bleeding), and Juliette Lewis (“Yellowjackets”) also star.
Meagan Navarro writes in her review for Bloody Disgusting, “Over Your Dead Body is one of the funniest films of the year; it happens to be one of its bloodiest, too.”

A woman must prevent a simulated terrorist attack to prove her loyalty in the British time loop thriller Voidance. The film is now available on Digital outlets in the United States.
The film follows Alana Toro as she faces her final assessment to become an elite ATIC agent. Inside a simulated space station bar, she must prevent a terrorist attack before it happens. Each failed attempt allows her to restart the scenario, but with limited chances to get it right.
As Alana navigates a cast of guarded and unpredictable patrons, gaining trust proves as difficult as identifying the threat itself. With each attempt, new details emerge and assumptions shift, forcing her to rethink who she can rely on. As the pressure builds, Alana is pushed towards an unorthodox solution — one that may challenge everything expected of her.
Zoe Cunningham and James Cosmo (Highlander) star in Voidance with Chris Charles, Florence Russell, Neil Bishop, Mim Shaikh, and Billy Price.
Marianna Dean (Breaking Infinity) directs from a script by Simon X. Frederick.

Described as a found footage cosmic horror movie, the independent feature Tribe from director Dan Asma was released onto digital outlets at home beginning today.
The film “blends psychological terror, cult horror and cosmic dread as a retired lecturer investigates the mysterious death of a friend and uncovers something far more disturbing.”
In Tribe, a retired university lecturer named Devin Adams is documenting the symptoms of a strange illness as he spirals into paranoia and fractured memory.
As he revisits old videotapes, he begins piecing together the events that led him into a nightmare involving conspiracies, ancient creatures and cataclysmic cosmic horrors.

Described as a “sexy, bloody slasher” starring real-life porn stars, the attention-grabbing queer horror movie Blowie was released on digital outlets today from Dark Star Pictures.
The film follows a group of sex workers who rent a remote mansion to shoot OnlyFans content…until a tragic accident unleashes Blowie: a doll-faced killer with a thirst for vengeance.

Blowie is written by altSHIFT, and directed by Ed Aldridge, altSHIFT and Sam Lidbetter.

]]>The news comes courtesy of Robert Rhine from Girls and Corpses Films, the label behind Yoshihiro Nishimura’s brand new upcoming action/horror movie Geisha War.
Yoshihiro Nishimura is known for his gory blasts of insanity including Tokyo Gore Police, Helldriver, and Mutant Girls Squad, as well as the more recent film Holy Mother.
Nishimura was known by many as “the Tom Savini of Japan” thanks to his gory special effects makeup in both his own movies and countless movies made by other filmmakers.
As an effects artist, Nishimura worked on films including Suicide Club, Meatball Machine, Exte: Hair Extensions, The Machine Girl, RoboGeisha, and the list goes on and on.
Nishimura had just completed and edited his latest film Geisha War, an American/Japanese co-production between his company Eixo Film and producer Robert Rhine of Girls and Corpses Films. “I will be finalizing Geisha War in Nishimura’s memory and we will find a great distributer for this amazing film, Nishimura’s last, to show to the world,” assures Rhine.
“I am devastated by the sudden loss of my great friend Yoshihiro Nishimura who only two weeks ago was on a live Zoom call with us following the screening of our film Geisha War,“ Robert Rhine tells us. “It had been a dream of mine to work with Nishimura and I flew to Kyoto last October (with our lead actor Costas Mandylor) to film at Hikone Studios. Nishimura was a brilliant filmmaker and true artist who inspired many filmmakers, such as Quentin Tarantino. It is a great loss for the indie horror community and Nishimura’s fans around the world.”
We send our deepest condolences to Yoshihiro Nishimura’s family, friends, and fans.

]]>The post Wishing for More Inde Navarrette After ‘Obsession’? These Are Her Next Horror Projects appeared first on Bloody Disgusting!.
]]>While Curry Barker’s film is masterfully written and directed, making audiences both fear and feel for Navarrette’s “Freaky Nikki” in equal measure, there’s no overstating the amount of tortured humanity that the actress brings to the table with this new horror icon.
However, just in case you still find yourself wishing for more Inde Naverrette once the credits roll (and who could blame you after such a memorable film?), we’ve decided to shine a light on a few of Naverrette’s upcoming projects.
Just keep in mind that Obsession’s success is still a relatively recent phenomenon, so we’ll likely have even more announcements regarding Naverrette’s future roles in the coming months.

Pictured: 2022’s ‘Fall’
From the director of Cockneys vs Zombies and the producers behind 2022’s unexpected hit Fall, the upcoming survival thriller Invertigo follows a group of teenagers who sneak into an amusement park in order to try out a roller coaster before its official debut. Naturally, things go horribly wrong when a technical malfunction leaves the group stranded hundreds of feet in the air.
Inde Naverrette is almost certainly playing one of the reckless youngsters trapped aboard the coaster, with the movie appearing to be a less-wintery take on the isolated thrills of Adam Green’s massively underrated Frozen. That’s why I think horror fans would do well to keep an eye on this upcoming release!

Inde Navarrette as Emma in ‘Kids of the Black Hole’
A microbudget indie drama originally crowd-funded through Indiegogo, Dylan Ellis’ Kids of the Black Hole follows an ensemble of teenagers forced to reflect on their past mistakes after an attempted robbery goes horribly wrong.
Inde Navarrette is set to play a troubled teen named Emma in the film, with her role having been shot all the way back in 2018. However, while the flick appears to have been trapped in post-production hell, The buzz surrounding Inde’s performance in Obsession is likely responsible for the project finally getting off the ground – though there’s still no confirmed release date.

Pictured: Tobe Hooper’s original ‘Texas Chain Saw Massacre’
Given Obsession’s impressive box-office numbers and early studio reactions to the upcoming horror-comedy Anything but Ghosts, it makes sense that Hollywood would allow Curry Barker to use his particular brand of unhinged horror to revamp an existing franchise. And while nothing about this project is set in stone, it would make a lot of sense for Barker to capitalize on Obsession’s success by teaming up with Inde Navarrette once again in his as-yet-untitled addition to the Texas Chain Saw Massacre franchise.
As our own John Squires pointed out on X, Inde could just as easily play a terrified victim of Leatherface and company or a deranged member of the cannibalistic family itself. Barker is almost certainly aware of this as well, so I think it’s safe to say that there’s a big chance that this collaboration is being discussed as we speak!

]]>The post Italian Horror Actor and Screenwriter George Eastman Has Passed Away appeared first on Bloody Disgusting!.
]]>la Repubblica reports that Eastman passed away after a brief stay at the Gemelli Curae clinic in Rome following deteriorating health.
Eastman, born in Genoa on August 16, 1942, as Luigi Montefiori, was a former rugby player turned actor and screenwriter who, looking to break into film, chose an American stage name after the originator of photographic film and founder of the Kodak Company.
His hulking 6’9″ frame and menacing exterior made him a regular in spaghetti westerns as the Heavy and a formidable villain in horror. Eastman’s career spanned everything from westerns, horror, thrillers, post-apocalyptic science fiction, erotica, and television.
While Eastman notably terrorized as one of the villains in Mario Bava‘s sadistic road thriller Rabid Dogs, it was the actor’s close friendship with Italian horror filmmaker Joe D’Amato that is most notable for horror fans. His frequent collaborations with D’Amato yielded both acting and screenwriting credits: Absurd (1981), Red Blood (1981), and sexploitation films like Erotic Nights of the Living Dead (1980) and Porno Holocaust (1981).
That creative partnership would lead Eastman to helm his own feature to date, 1990’s sci-fi horror movie Metamorphosis, under the pseudonym G. L. Eastman.
George Eastman’s storied career spans all genres and paired the filmmaker with Italy’s most prominent filmmakers, from Mario Bava to Sergio Martino to Enzo G. Castellari and Lamberto Bava.
We send our condolences to the family, friends, and fans of George Eastman.

]]>Revealed by IndieWire, the preview screening schedule is as follows:
Writer-director Jane Schoenbrun (I Saw the TV Glow) and star Hannah Einbinder (“Hacks”) will be in attendance for all but the Medfield screening; that one will be an outdoor double feature with Sleepaway Camp.
The sapphic meta horror film, which also stars Gillian Anderson (“The X-Files”), had its world premiere last night at the Cannes Film Festival to open the Un Certain Regard section. It was reportedly met with a nine-minute standing ovation.
In the film, after years of slapdash sequels and waning fandom, the Camp Miasma slasher franchise is handed over to an enthusiastic young director for resurrection. But when she visits the original movie’s star, a now-reclusive actress shrouded in mystery, the two women fall into a blood-soaked world of desire, fear, and delirium.
Amanda Fix (Lowlifes), Arthur Conti (Beetlejuice Beetlejuice), Eva Victor (Sorry Baby), Zach Cherry (“Severance”), Sarah Sherman (“Saturday Night Live”), Patrick Fischler (“Twin Peaks”), Dylan Baker (Trick ‘r Treat), Jasmin Savoy Brown (Scream), Kevin McDonald (“The Kids in the Hall”), Quintessa Swindell (Black Adam), and Jack Haven (I Saw the TV Glow) round out the cast.
Produced by Mubi and Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma is rated R for “bloody violence, gore, sexual content, graphic nudity, drug use, and some language.”

]]>The post ‘The Ring’ Creator Koji Suzuki Has Passed Away at 68 appeared first on Bloody Disgusting!.
]]>The story of Sadako/Samara all began in 1991 with Koji Suzuki’s Japanese novel Ring, which formed the basis for Hideo Nakata’s 1998 film and soon thereafter the Gore Verbinski-directed American remake in 2002. The one two-punch of terrifying films about a little girl emerging from a well spawned a wave of Japanese horror films that overtook America in their wake.
One of those movies that helped define the “J-horror” movement was Dark Water, first a Japanese horror movie in 2002 and later an American movie in 2005. Much like Ring a few years prior, the Japanese version of Dark Water was directed by Hideo Nakata, but both films were based on a 1996 short story penned by, you guessed it, Ring creator Koji Suzuki.
These are just a small handful of horror movies based on the works of Koji Suzuki, with his body of work inspiring films including Spiral, The Ring Virus, Ring 2, Ring O: Birthday, The Ring Two, Open Water 2: Adrift, Sadako 3D, Sadako vs. Kayako, and Rings. Suzuki’s tale Dream Cruise also became the 13th and final episode of Showtime’s “Masters of Horror” series.
Koji Suzuki was indeed a master of horror in every sense, his nightmares helping to define an entire era of horror that terrified audiences throughout the late 1990s and 2000s. It’s hard to imagine the landscape of the genre without films like The Ring, Dark Water, and the films that were directly inspired by them, and none of that would’ve happened without Koji Suzuki.
There’s a reason Koji Suzuki was known as “the Stephen King of Japan.” Like King, Suzuki’s work will endure and inspire for many, many generations to come. All of us here at Bloody Disgusting send our deepest condolences to Suzuki’s family, friends, and many fans.

Producers include Denise Di Novi, Margaret French Isaac, & Oliver Scherick for Di Novo Pictures (Practical Magic) and John Zois & Warren Goz for Parallel 42 Entertainment.
Williams will executive produce alongside Michael Rothstein & Samuel Hall for North.Five.Six, which is launching sales at next week’s Cannes film market. CAA Media Finance and UTA Independent Film Group co-rep domestic rights.
“I found the script riveting, and it had a depth that continued shifting and revealing itself as I read,” said Williams. “Then, knowing Xavier’s work, I was very eager to work with this talented filmmaker. I’m grateful to be part of this team and this project.”
“I was immediately drawn to how Homewrecker blends psychological tension with something deeply character-driven,” added Randolph. “It has a kind of intensity and unpredictability that makes it such a compelling project. I’m so excited to be part of this with Allison and Xavier.”

]]>“It’s so funny, because literally every barometer we use in the industry to determine whether or not a movie is good, and people like it and want to see it, was through the roof, and yet our box office wasn’t there,” director Nia DaCosta tells Empire of her sequel.
“I made a great film, and I’m really proud of it, and people liked it,” she adds.
The films, shot back-to-back, were released just seven months apart. DaCosta wonders whether it was “maybe too soon, because people were like, ‘Oh yeah, I saw that last summer!’ I’m like, ‘No, no, so there’s a sequel!’”
Despite the underwhelming performance, DaCosta stands by her work.
“When this came out and it didn’t do as well in terms of the money it made, I was disappointed,” she admits. “But I also was like, ‘I’m so happy that when people find the film, they’re going to enjoy the film.’ I wish it made more money, but I’m really proud of it.”
Written by Alex Garland, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple finds Dr. Kelson in a shocking new relationship — with consequences that could change the world as they know it — while Spike’s encounter with Jimmy Crystal becomes a nightmare he can’t escape.
Ralph Fiennes, Jack O’Connell, Alfie Williams, Erin Kellyman, and Chi Lewis-Parry star, with Cillian Murphy reprising his 28 Days Later role.
Meagan Navarro wrote in her 4-skull review, “Director Nia DaCosta takes the reins with fearless gusto, making this entry wholly her own while pushing the overarching story and its richly layered themes into darker, grislier, funnier, and more poignant territory.”
The question remains whether Sony will complete the 28 Years Later trilogy. The studio was developing the third installment — with Garland penning the script, Danny Boyle attached to direct, and Murphy in talks to star — but there have been no updates in the wake of The Bone Temple’s release.

Jonathan Tiersten played Angela’s (Felissa Rose) cousin Ricky in the original 1980s slasher classic, a role he later reprised in the 2008 sequel Return to Sleepaway Camp.
Sleepaway Camp marked the teenage Tiersten’s feature film debut, and he returned to the horror genre decades later in a handful of films including The Perfect House, Redemption, Blood Reservoir, The House That Wept Blood, Terror Tales, Lake of Shadows, Toilet Zombie Baby Strikes Back, Last American Horror Show: Volume II, and the slasher Time’s Up.
In addition to his acting work, Jonathan Tiersten was also an accomplished musician. His IMDb bio states, “As a singer/songwriter, Tiersten made his presence felt on the Greenwich Village folk-rock/roots rock circuit in the late 1980s and early 1990s as one-half of the acoustic duo The Magic Box. Tiersten (whose first solo album, Heaven, was released in 1998) also has been a member of the alternative funk-rock band Gaphiltaphunk, and now leads the band TEN TIERS, whose debut album, Don’s Club Tavern: Part 1, was released in 2006.”

]]>The post ‘The Punisher,’ ‘Werewolf by Night’ Creator Gerry Conway Has Passed Away appeared first on Bloody Disgusting!.
]]>Conway’s contributions to the comic industry reach far and wide. Most notably, he co-created The Punisher in 1963’s The Amazing Spider-Man #129 and established the character’s tragic backstory in Marvel Preview #2.
The prolific writer brought more overt horror elements to Marvel, co-creating Man-Thing for Savage Tales #1, Dracula in Tomb of Dracula #1, and Werewolf by Night in Marvel Spotlight #2.
During his time at Marvel, Conway wrote The Amazing Spider-Man‘s famous “The Night Gwen Stacy Died” story arc, established Carol Danvers in Ms. Marvel #1, co-created supervillain Jackal, and briefly served as editor-in-chief.
Working for DC Comics, Conway co-created Firestorm, Steel, Vixen, Killer Croc, and Jason Todd, among other characters.
Conway was also a screenwriter, penning 1983’s Fire and Ice and receiving a story credit on Conan the Destroyer before working on “G.I. Joe,” “Transformers,” “My Little Pony,” “Batman: The Animated Series,” “Spider-Man: The Animated Series,” “Hercules: The Legendary Journeys,” “Law & Order,” and more.
“Gerry Conway was a gifted writer,” said Dan Buckley, President of Marvel Comics and Franchise. “He was thoughtful, deeply attuned to the emotional and moral core of storytelling, and a wonderful and articulate advocate for comics and creators. His writing has inspired all of us at Marvel, and will continue to inspire generations of writers, readers and fans to come.”
“From Spider-Man to the Avengers, Iron Man to Captain Marvel, Gerry Conway has deftly written almost every character in the Marvel Universe,” added Marvel Comics editor-in-chief C.B. Cebulski. “He thrilled us with new characters like the Punisher and broke our hearts in emotional tales like ‘The Night Gwen Stacy Died,’ a story that affects Spider-Man to this day. Gerry Conway’s legacy has made an undeniable and indelible impact on the super hero stories we know and love. He will be dearly missed.”
“Gerry Conway brought real stakes to his writing, able to weave together sensational super heroics with the human and relatable, and in doing so created some of the most memorable stories and characters of all time,” shared Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. “His writing has been hugely impactful across our comics, but it has also inspired so much of what we’ve done on screen, from Werewolf by Night to Daredevil to Spider-Man and Punisher. Gerry was a wonderful collaborator and friend to so many and will be dearly missed.”
Conway’s legacy will live on in both comics and on screen, including the upcoming The Punisher: One Last Kill, streaming May 12 on Disney+.

]]>Horror fans will recognize Costello from Let’s Scare Jessica to Death. She played Emily, a hippie turned vampire who lends herself to one of the 1971 cult classic’s most memorable images: the undead Costello emerging from a lake to attack Jessica.
Costello’s other horror credits include the 1983 horror anthology Nightmares and the Blair Witch Project faux-documentary Shadow of the Blair Witch.
Costello is also known for a recurring stint on “The Waltons” as as devoted schoolteacher Rosemary Hunter. Other notable credits include Indecent Proposal, Ordinary People, and The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension.
Costello got her start on the stage, appearing in nine Broadway productions between 1964 and 1970. She was married to actor Allan Arbus (“M*A*S*H”) from 1977 until his death in 2013.
Costello is survived by her daughter, stage director Arin Arbus, and Arin’s partner, playwright Ethan Lipton; granddaughter Bird; and stepdaughters Amy and Doon.
“Warm, curious, generous and tough, she had the constitution of an ox, was never sick, and was always up for an adventure, especially if she could show up a few minutes late, as was her general inclination,” her obituary reads.
A funeral service will be held in New York City, with burial and remembrance in Peoria.

“Lucy’s tropical island homecoming was supposed to be beaches and best friends — not a fight for her life. When her family’s exceptionally clever chimp spirals into a savage rabid frenzy, the night explodes into terrifying chaos. With her father away and no help coming, paradise becomes a prison as Lucy and her friends fight to survive a deadly predator they once trusted.”
Johannes Roberts co-wrote the screenplay with Ernest Riera. The horror movie stars Johnny Sequoyah and Oscar®-winning actor Troy Kotsur (CODA) in his first horror role.
Meagan Navarro wrote in her review for Bloody Disgusting, “Johannes Roberts’ latest is a lean, mean horror throwback, wearing its influences on its sleeves while managing to inject enough freshness into the familiar concept through slick technical precision and a constant mounting of dread and death. It’s also not without humor. Primate may take its crazed beast with utmost seriousness, but it’s not afraid to get playful with its concept either.”

Continuing the exploration of the original film’s infamous ‘Is it real or not?’ conceit, the reboot follows a woman working as a content moderator for a major video platform who discovers what appears to be re-enactments of murders from Faces of Death. In an online world where nothing can be trusted, she must determine whether the violence is fiction or unfolding in real time.
Daniel Goldhaber (Cam, How to Blow Up a Pipeline) directs from a script he co-wrote with Isa Mazzei (Cam).
“That is the first role of content creation: give the people what they want,” Dacre Montgomery (“Stranger Things”) menacingly notes in the red band trailer below.
Barbie Ferreira (“Euphoria”), Josie Totah (“Saved by the Bell”), Aaron Holliday (Cocaine Bear), Jermaine Fowler (Sorry to Bother You), and pop sensation Charli XCX also star.
Legendary Entertainment, Don Murphy & Susan Montford of Angry Films Entertainment, and Greg Gilreath & Adam Hendricks of Divide/Conquer produce. Mazzei, Derek Bishé, and Rick Benattar serve as executive producers.
Filmed back in 2023, Faces of Death is rated R for “strong bloody violence and gore, sexual content, nudity, language, and drug use.”

]]>The 67-year-old horror icon shared a statement on social media last night.
“These days, when someone is having a health issue, it’s referred to as an ‘opportunity,’ so let’s go with that — I’m having one of those. It’s also called a type of cancer that’s ‘treatable’ not ‘curable.’ I apologize if that’s a shock — it was to me too,” Campbell explains.
His statement continues, “The good news is, I’m not gonna go into any more detail. I’m posting this, because professionally, a few things will have to change — appearances and cons and work in general need to take a back seat to treatment. My plan is to get as well as I possibly can over the summer so that I can tour with my new movie Ernie & Emma this fall.
“There are several cons this summer that I have to cancel. Big regrets on my part. Treatment needs and professional obligations don’t always go hand-in-hand. That’s about it. I’m not trying to enlist sympathy — or advice — I just want to get ahead of this information in case false information gets out (which it will).
“Fear not, I am a tough old son-of-a-bitch and I have great support, so I expect to be around a while. As always, you’re the greatest fans in the world and I hope to see you soon!”
Bruce Campbell recently wrote, directed, produced, and stars in the heartfelt comedy Ernie & Emma, which premiered on Valentine’s Day and will next screen at the Hollywood Theatre in Portland, OR, on April 4. The Evil Dead legend is also an executive producer on the upcoming Evil Dead Burn, in theaters July 24, and Evil Dead Wrath, expected out in 2027.
The Bloody Disgusting team sends our best to Campbell in his fight. Hail to the king, baby.

]]>We put out a call to independent filmmakers last year to come up with their own pitches for a short horror film featuring Buzzkill, and we’re excited to announce the winner this week!
Contestants were asked to submit pitches for a 40-minute short horror film where they bring Bloody Disgusting’s Buzzkill character to life. Screambox and Bloody Disgusting reviewed all submissions and selected the winning pitch to be awarded a $35,000 budget to produce their short. The winning production team will also partner with professional special FX artists to bring Buzzkill to life utilizing top of the line materials and practical FX processes.
“For 25 years, Bloody Disgusting has championed the future of horror,” said Cineverse Vice President, Networks Strategy Tom Owen. “With this contest we wanted to honor that legacy by using our platform to be a launchpad for the next generation of horror creators and we can’t wait to see what they do with our iconic Buzzkill logo.”
The winner of the Bloody Disgusting 25th Anniversary short film contest? Jesse James Hennessy, who impressed the entire Bloody Disgusting team with his creative take on Buzzkill!
A director, producer, writer and editor, Jesse James Hennessy is a lifelong horror fan whose passion for the genre came through loud and clear in his 1990s-set pitch that’s set to feature glorious practical effects kills as well as a wild origin story for Bloody Disgusting’s Buzzkill.
“Over his career he has made multiple award-winning films, most notably gaining the attention of Troma legend Lloyd Kaufman, when he hand-picked Jesse’s rad horror/comedy Love Potion 89 as his favorite short film in 2018,” Jesse’s bio states. “On top of his ever-growing passion for creating rad horror flicks, Jesse also makes commercials, interviews, and volunteers his skills whenever possible to help lift up the Spokane area community.”
“Ever since his parents rented him a VHS camcorder over summer weekends back in the ’80s, he’s been making movies. He fell in love with horror flicks early on as a kid (maybe a little too early) and knew that he wanted to make some killer films of his own,” Jesse’s bio notes.
We don’t yet want to spill the beans on exactly what Jesse Hennessy has come up with for the Buzzkill character, but we promise it’s going to be nostalgic and bloody-as-hell good time.
“I’m very humbled and excited to be working with Bloody Disgusting to bring Buzz Kill, a brand-new horror icon, to life for audiences,” the filmmaker said in a statement this week.
We’ll announce much more about Bloody Disgusting’s official 25th anniversary short film real soon. In the meantime, you can whet your appetite with Hennessy’s director’s reel below!
Expect to see Hennessy’s Buzzkill short on Screambox in October 2026!
The contest and upcoming short film is sponsored by Black Magic Design.

]]>Deadline reports that the initiative will provide writers with the opportunity to submit horror script with the intention for Tubi to produce and distribute the selected project. The Black List will executive produce and collaborate closely with Tubi throughout the program.
Writers can submit their entries beginning March 1. Submissions close on June 30, after which a committee of Tubi content executives will review the scripts and announce the winner in October.
Any emerging and established writers over the age of 18 are welcome to participate, but all submissions must be in English. Any script that is hosted on The Black List and has received at least one evaluation is eligible for submission, and writers are also welcome to upload new projects for consideration.
Tubi will be providing fee waivers for one evaluation for participation in the program to 100 writers, along with one month of hosting.
“At Tubi, we’re committed to championing and expanding the boundaries of genre storytelling,” said Tubi Chief Content Officer Adam Lewinson. “Horror is one of the most-watched genres on Tubi, offering a vast creative playground with a deeply passionate fanbase that continues to grow. With our ongoing partnership with The Black List, we look forward to finding a standout script that speaks to horror fans who know and love this genre.”
“We’ve seen again and again that when a smart, character-driven horror script meets the right partners, the results can be seismic,” added Black List founder Franklin Leonard. “Extending our work with Tubi into a dedicated horror initiative feels like the natural next step in our partnership. I’m excited for Tubi’s audience to discover a film that began the way so many of the industry’s favorite projects do, as a script on the Black List website.”
Tubi and The Black List previously partnered on the To Be Commissioned initiative, which focused on discovering, developing, and producing five original films from up-and-coming, underrepresented writers.

]]>If Keke Palmer has her way, what’s next will be a whole lot more horror!
Chatting with Variety on the red carpet at the Film Independent Spirit Awards, Palmer reveals that she’d love to follow in the footsteps of Jamie Lee Curtis in terms of a career in horror.
“I would love to do MORE horror,” Palmer emphatically states. “I’m talking like my Jamie Lee Curtis girl type of vibe. Like a full-on, Neve Campbell franchise… we need number two, three, four, five, six. I would love to be like Jamie Lee. She’s the most iconic scream queen. So if I could do a Halloween type situation, I would have so much fun with that.”
Palmer’s own pitch for a horror franchise she’d love to lead? A Valentine’s Day slasher saga!
The actress jokes, “A real mad ass bitch that had her heart broken in 1985, and she’s coming back to haunt all the wicked men of the day. She’s making all the men rue the day that they broke somebody’s heart. Now that’s actually good!”
For now, you can spend 8 episodes with Keke Palmer by watching “The ‘Burbs,” now streaming in its entirety only on Peacock. Set in present-day suburbia, Palmer and Jack Whitehall play a young couple who have reluctantly relocated to the husband’s childhood home.
Their world is upended when a new neighbor moves in across the street, bringing old secrets of the cul-de-sac to light, and new deadly threats shatter the illusion of their quiet neighborhood.

GoFundMe organizer Billy Ferguson writes, “Gigi, who has promised to never leave Reggie’s side, is doing everything she can to care for him at home. However, she is now facing the very real fear of losing essential services, including the oxygen care that Reggie desperately needs.
“The funds raised through this campaign will go directly toward covering medical expenses, utility bills, and ensuring that Reggie receives the hospice care he needs in the comfort of his own home. Your support will help ease the financial burden on Gigi and allow her to focus on what matters most — being there for Reggie during this incredibly difficult time.”
Bannister played shotgun-toting ice cream man Reggie in Phantasm and all four of its sequels. He also appeared in Bubba Ho-Tep, Wishmaster, Silent Night Deadly Night 4: Initiation, The Mangler Reborn, and The Rage, among others.

]]>Stomping into stores nationwide in Early 2026 will be an epic 99 PACK of Pabst Blue Ribbon x Godzilla beer, with only 4,000 of the kaiju-sized offerings being made available nationwide.
You’re reading that correctly… a package featuring 99 INDIVIDUAL BEERS!
The press release details, “Building on the momentum of PBR’s recent Godzilla can collaboration with Toho International, the new 99 Pack wraps 99 Pabst Blue Ribbon cans in a gigantic, all-new original illustration featuring characters from the Godzilla universe.”
“It’s not our style to spend millions of dollars for a few seconds of airtime during the big game.” says, Rachel Keeton, Senior Brand Director of Pabst Blue Ribbon. “Instead we’re getting in on the post-season action in a way our drinkers can have some fun with. The Godzilla 99pk is here to loudly crash tailgates and watch parties everywhere.”
This drop is extremely limited. Only 4,000 packs will hit stores across the country, and each one is covered in an expanded ATTACK Peter panorama that turns the oversized case into an instant collectible and an aisle-dominating, impossible-to-miss retail presence.
Building on the original Godzilla, Mothra, Mechagodzilla, and King Ghidorah designs from PBR’s recent collaboration, which put original Godzilla art on over 60 million PBR cans, the 99 Pack features brand new character additions and expanded artwork that ATTACK Peter developed exclusively for this release.
ATTACK Peter says in a statement of his own, “A WHAT pack?? That was my first reaction when the gang at PBR asked me to team up on this design! The 99 pack is one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen and I knew they were going to MOVE so I incorporated some designs of the Ghidorah and Mechagodzilla soaring into action! And don’t underestimate the Mothra larva crawling its way onto the package; they’re no strangers to mixing it up with the biggest bads!”
“This collaboration represents the intersection of pop culture, art, and lifestyle. Seeing the Godzilla universe come to life across an entire 99 Pack is something we’re incredibly proud of, and it speaks to the brand’s continued evolution,” said Kristin Parcell, General Manager of Toho International. “Working with Pabst Blue Ribbon and ATTACK PETER gave us an opportunity to reimagine how fans engage with Godzilla beyond the screen and we’re excited for fans to experience this original artwork in such a unique way.
And speaking of Godzilla… Toho recently announced that Godzilla Minus One follow-up movie Godzilla Minus Zero will be unleashed in U.S. theaters on November 6, 2026!
