5. One Missed Call
Not many people would deny that The Ring is an excellent remake, but it unfortunately spawned a lot of pale imitation J-horror remakes in the 2000s. Though out of The Grudge (which I actually like), Dark Water, Pulse, One Missed Call, Shutter, Mirrors and The Uninvited, One Missed Call probably takes the cake as the worst of the bunch. The issue with many of these remakes is that the horror gets lost in cultural translation (see Pulse for an excellent example of this), substituting cheap jump scares and clichés for actual scares. One Missed Call is the most guilty of the bunch, and is also notable for being the worst-reviewed film of 2008.
