[BEST & WORST ’14] Trace’s 10 Most Disappointing Horror Movies

The Babadook

Alrighty, I saved this one for last because I thought it would be a controversial pick. Many critics (and some audience members) absolutely love this film. It was destined to be over-hyped and disappointing for most of the general public once they finally got around to seeing it. I would like to point out that I do like The Babadook. I think it is a very well-made film with a great central performance by Essie Davis. But I thought the film was “just fine.” It wasn’t terrible scary (although the Babadook’s voice is definitely something that stuck with me after I saw the film) and the lack of clarity towards the films end just didn’t sit right with me. I feel like maybe I’m not at the right age or point in my life to find the film truly terrifying. I do not have a child, and I think if I did then the film may have connected with me more. Nevertheless, I do like The Babadook, but I think it would be less disappointing to someone who walked in knowing nothing about it.

If you disagree with anything I’ve listed above, feel free to let me know in the comments below! Or list off some of your biggest disappointments of the year if you think I left something off!
