[TV] “Hannibal” Gaining Steam, Finally…

NBC’s “Hannibal” is absolutely badass, and you should be watching it. The first week wasn’t encouraging; it didn’t help that the show was pushed behind NBC’s terrible Thursday night comedy entourage. Still, strong word of mouth appears to be helping this insanely expensive new series.

One week after opening to decent numbers, NBC drama “Hannibal” held up well in its second outing Thursday — opposite repeats on the competition — and continues to look better than other recent shows to air in the night’s closing hour for the Peacock, states Variety.

According to preliminary national estimates from Nielsen, “Hannibal” averaged a 1.6 rating/5 share in adults 18-49 and 4.3 million viewers overall in the 10 o’clock hour, topping in demos the encores of both CBS’ “Elementary” (1.4/4 in 18-49, 7.3 million viewers overall) and ABC’s “Scandal” (0.9/3 in 18-49, 3.6 million viewers overall). The new Bryan Fuller-created drama matched its week-ago averages and grew from its first half-hour to its second (1.6 to 1.7). And since these prelim “Hannibal” numbers include a 1-minute runover from low-rated comedy “Go On,” the drama’s demo score could round up to a 1.7 in the nationals.

Starring Hugh Dancy, Mads Mikkelsen and Caroline Dhavernas, the insanely violent series explores the early relationship between the renowned psychiatrist and his patient, a young FBI criminal profiler, who is haunted by his ability to empathize with serial killers.

[TV] Here’s the First Footage From “Dexter’s” Eighth Season!

While I see heavy negativity surrounding Showtime’s “Dexter,” I still have a lot of fun with the show. While it’s way past the point of quality television, there’s stil an end game at hand, and I’m curious to see how the cabler tackles the new relationship with Dexter and Debra.

With the June 30 premiere of the eighth season locked and loaded, EW scored the first TV Spot jam-packed with action shots from the series, as well as Showtime’s new drama series “Ray Donovan,” which stars Liev Schreiber as a Hollywood fixer. Says the site, there’s only a few brief nuggets, but they’re good ones — we get glimpses of how Dexter and Debra are responding to season 7′s shocking ending (when Deb pulled the trigger on Capt. María LaGüerta). As you might expect, Deb isn’t doing too well — “I shot the wrong person,” she says — while Dex is utterly remorseless.

“Dexter” returns June 30 to Showtime (including Yvonne Strahovski reprising her role on the show) followed by the premiere of “Ray Donovan.” READ MORE

[TV] Next On “Hannibal” Episode 1.03 “Potage”

NBC’s “Hannibal” just aired episode 1.02, “Amuse-Bouche,” and they’re now offering up the teaser for episode 1.03, “Potage.”

In the episode, “Jack (Laurence Fishburne) theorizes that Abigail (Kacey Rohl) may have aided her father, Garret Jacob Hobbs (Vladimir Cubrt) in his serial killings against Dr. Alana Bloom’s (Caroline Dhavernas) advice, but at Hannibal’s (Mads Mikkelsen) behest. Abigail is escorted back to Minnesota, where she discovers much violent hostility against her and her family. Things go from bad to worse when a copycat killer murders a friend of Abigail. Hannibal suggests they hide the body to protect Abigail – but secrets come at a cost.

The series focuses on the fledgling relationship between FBI agent Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) and Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen), his mentor.” Other key cast members include Lance Henriksen (Near Dark, roughly 8% of horror movies in general), Gillian Anderson (“X-Files”), Gina Torres (“Firefly”), “Wonderfalls”’ Caroline Dhavernas and Ellen Muth (Dead Like Me).

[TV Bites] “Cult” Pulled From Schedule, Say Hello To SyFy’s Jamie Foxx Horror Anthology

CW’s “Cult,” which premiered on February 19th, has been pulled from the network’s schedule. Per THR, “The freshman dud starring The Vampire Diaries’ alum Matt Davis has been completely removed from the network’s schedule, according to program listings The CW released Wednesday.

While it doesn’t look good for the series, there’s always the possibility that the remaining episodes could be shown “on other platforms.” So maybe On Demand or iTunes? They weren’t clear.

In more positive news, the SyFy Channel has announced a new horror anthology series from Jamie Foxx. Yep. And he’s going to write, produce and direct 5 episodes of it. It doesn’t have a title yet, so I’m just going to call it the Untitled Jamie Foxx Horror Anthology Series for now. Per Deadline, it will be in the vein of “Tales From The Crypt” and “The Twilight Zone” and will be exec produced by Troy Miller “Flight Of The Conchords”.

Yvonne Strahovski

[TV] Yvonne Strahovski Returning To “Dexter” For Season 8

The 8th Season of “Dexter” will premiere on Sunday, June 30th, and while I await word – final confirmation -double final confirmation that this upcoming season will be its’ last, we do have some news that’s sure to please fans of Yvonne Strahovski. That’s right, she’s reprising her role as serial killer Hannah in the show.

Per EW, “The actress is set to reprise her role in a multi-episode arc this summer as Hannah McKay, the gorgeous killer florist. Last season, the Hannah became Dexter’s twisted love interest and a major thorn in his side. When we last saw her in the seventh season finale, Hannah had escaped from prison, and Dex was seemingly lucky to get away from her.

I think Strahovski is great, but she’s not enough to bring me back. READ MORE

[TV] Next On “Hannibal”, New Clip Provides You With An Entirely New Reason To Be Murdered

NBC’s “Hannibal,” has given TVLine a new clip from their episode 1.02, titled “Amuse-Bouche.” I haven’t seen the show yet but this clip has me intrigued (along with everything else I’ve heard about it). It would definitely suck to be buried alive so you could harvest mushrooms.

In the episode, “Will Graham (Hugh Dancy), now an official special investigator with the FBI, helps Jack Crawford (Laurence Fishburne) and the BAU unit search for a murderer who buries his victims alive to grow mushrooms. In their therapy sessions, Hannibal (Mads Mikkelsen) begins to gain Will’s trust as they bond over responsibility for Abigail (guest star Kacey Rohl), and helps Will open up about his true feelings about killing Hobbs. Meanwhile, Freddie Lounds (guest star Lara Jean Chorostecki) snoops around the BAU’s investigation.” Caroline Dhavernas and Hettienne Park also star.

Filming is taking place in Wilmington, N.C. for CBS’s new summer series, “Under the Dome,” with acclaimed director Niels Arden Oplev (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) taking the helm on the first episode.

“Under the Dome”, which premieres Monday, June 24 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on CBS, is based on Stephen King’s bestselling novel “About a small town that is suddenly and inexplicably sealed off from the rest of the world by an enormous transparent dome. The town’s inhabitants must deal with surviving the post-apocalyptic conditions while searching for answers to what this barrier is, where it came from, and if and when it will go away.

[TV] Anna Camp Returns To Bon Temps For Some More “True Blood”

Season 6 of “True Blood” is set to premiere on Sunday, June 16 at 9/8c and we’ve gotten word of at least one more familiar face that will be back. TV Line is reporting that Anna Camp (The Help) will reprise her role as anti-vamp puritan Sarah. I really like Camp, but sadly it looks like this will only be for a few episodes.

The series started in 2008, “In a world where vampires have “come out of the coffin”, Sookie Stackhouse, a telepathic waitress, discovers a new world of different creatures when she meets Bill Compton, a vampire.

Also joining the HBO smash in Season 6 are acting vet Rutger Hauer (as a mysterious figure with deep ties to Sookie and Jason), “Rubicon’s” Arliss Howard (as Louisiana Governor Truman Burrell), “Friday Night Lights” grad Jurnee Smollett-Bell (as do-gooder Nicole), “90210‘s” Amelia Rose Blaire (as Howard’s onscreen daughter), “House‘s” Karolina Wydra (as a badass vamp) and All The Boys Love Mandy Lane‘s Luke Grimes as James, a Jim Morrison style vampire. [TV] New “Dexter” Promo Has Me Wondering “Why Bother?”

[TV] A Gummy Bloody Look At The New “Zombieland” TV Show

EW got their hands on a gummy new pic from Amazon Studios’ “Zombieland”. It features an elderly Zombie attacking Wichita and Columbus. I wonder if old zombies smell worse? Anyway, the show is based on the hit Columbia Pictures movie of the same name, and finds four survivors outwitting zombies and searching for a place to call home. The Zombieland pilot comes from the feature film’s original creative team, writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (G.I. Joe: Retaliation, The Joe Schmo Show), and producer Gavin Polone (Gilmore Girls, Curb Your Enthusiasm). Eli Craig (Tucker and Dale vs. Evil) is directing the pilot.

The part of Tallahassee will be played by Kirk Ward (The Island), Maiara Walsh (Desperate Housewives, Switched at Birth,) is cast as Wichita, Tyler Ross (Milkshake) will play Columbus, and Izabela Vidovic has the role of Little Rock.

With the third season of AMC’s “The Walking Dead” behind us, it’s time to start looking forward to Season 4. AMC and the creative team at the show has been doing just that by retaining a few emerging Season 3 characters as regulars for Season 4.

We already knew that for October’s return David Morrissey will return as a series regular as The Governor. The British actor initially signed on for a one-season role to play the famed villain from the comics created by Robert Kirkman on which the TV series is based. In the Image/Skybound comics, the Governor fails to survive a brutal showdown at the prison with Rick.

Now TVLine is reporting that “Chad L. Coleman and Sonequa Martin-Green, who recurred on Season 3 of The Walking Dead as Tyreese and Sasha, have been upgraded to series regulars for the fourth season of AMC’s zombie-apocalypse smash” They are also reporting that Emily Kinney, plays Hershel’s daughter Beth, is a regular now.
