8. The Red Chord “Dread Prevailed”
The Red Chord have always been one of my favorite bands to work with. Not only did they write some of the most intelligent riffs and lyrics in the game, they were also one of the prime movers of the technical metal/core/extreme metal scene in the states. And besides, they’re just a fun group of gentlemen, especially Greg Weeks (one of Decibel Magazine’s hottest dudes of metal!). Anyway, I relate to this video because I tend to doze a bit while driving. In college, a friend of mine claimed I had nodded off with my eyes open, like Gandalf clutching the Palantír, except a steering wheel, and with my friends’ lives in my hands. And that’s what bands do on tour, and it’s no laughing matter – they drive thousands of miles on a single tour (Warped Tour is about 15,000 total miles), and usually just a few guys in the band are the designated drivers. So that’s what this creepy, Dave Brodsky-directed clip is about: hallucinating and absurd ideas late at night in the middle of nowhere while the rest of the band snores/farts and one is alone with their own thoughts.
