5. The Gift (93% Rotten Tomatoes)
One of the biggest surprises of the year was this Joel Edgerton-directed film (he also wrote it and starred in it). I gave it 4 skulls, and it was not something I was particularly looking forward to. The trailer looked like a run-of-the-mill Fatal Attraction rip-off, but The Gift is so much more than that. To say any more would spoil the experience of the film, but just take my word for it and see it!
