2. The Fly
…David Cronenberg’s utterly terrifying body-horror film The Fly. There are plenty of movies that can inspire a gag reflex in the audience, but The Fly is up there. Played much more seriously than the 1958 original film, it is actually a beautiful and tragic love story between Seth Brundle (Jeff Goldblum) and Veronica Quaife (Geena Davis). The whole thing feels very intimate (the cast is pretty much comprised of just three characters), but Seth’s deterioration accelerates, it amps up the tension.
