The Devil Strikes at Night (Robert Siodmak, 1957) – Upon returning to his native Germany from his emigration to the US, Robert Siodmak (The Spiral Staircase, Gaslight) made a movie about the Nazi years of his Fatherland. Here, the police and SS search for serial killer in war-time Hamburg. As usual, Siocmak makes brilliant work of light and shadows; however it was the unique time, place and atmosphere that made the film one of the best serial killers movies of pre-Psycho era.
