Blumhouse recently announced plans to adapt James Tynion IV and Werther Dell’Edera’s horror comic book phenomenon Something is Killing the Children into both a feature film and an adult animated series. Now’s the time to jump into this one… 

Something is Killing the Children was first published by BOOM! Studios in 2019 and tells the story of Erica Slaughter, a monster hunter from a mysterious organization more concerned with keeping the secret of monsters from the world than saving their victims.

In this world, only children can see monsters.

The Cycle will debut exclusively on Shudder on October 23, 2026.

Also starring in The Cycle is Jeffrey Donovan (“Burn Notice“, Villains).

Jordan Downey wrote the screenplay with Kevin Stewart (The Head Hunter).

“We are so excited about The Cycle; Jordan has crafted such an original story that is gonna excite audiences. For us he has the ability to be the next great genre filmmaker and we can’t wait to make the movie,” said James Harris of production company Tea Shop (Obsession, 47 Meters Down). Peter Heller also produces.

Deborah Ann Woll rose to fame as the feisty vampire Jessica Hamby in HBO’s “True Blood” before becoming a fan favorite as Karen Page in Marvel’s “Daredevil” series. While horror fans recognize her from Escape Room and its sequel, Escape Room: Tournament of Champions, the versatile actress has captured gamers’ attention as Laufey, Kratos’ wife in God of War: Ragnarök. She’ll receive her solo spinoff game in the upcoming God of War: Laufey. 

As for Jordan Downey, The Cycle will mark his long-awaited feature follow-up to the underseen gem, The Head Hunter, but the rising filmmaker also has sci-fi thriller Override on the way.

The film is based on the short film The Vessel, and an original screenplay from horror writer Stephen Susco (The Grudge, The Grudge 2, Texas Chainsaw 3D, Hell Fest).

Steven Quale (Into the Storm, Final Destination 5) directs.

Tom Brittney, Holly Leena White, Betsy Blue English, Dane Whyte O’Hara, Kaja Chan, Asa Ali, Boadicea Ricketts, Ceallach Spellman, Georgina Leonidas, Molly Belle Wright, Hanneke Talbot, Danny Mack, and Weronika Rosati star in Black Box.

Junction Row will celebrate its World Premiere at Fantasia on July 28.

Watch a housing compound fall under siege from Lovecraftian creatures more dangerous than drug dealers in the trailer below.

Junction Row follows “Juno, a recovering addict who leaves a fringe housing compound for a better life, leaving her beloved Ruby behind. When she learns that Ruby has gone missing, Juno returns, only to find Junction Row has become a hotbed of criminal activity, but she encounters much more than menacing drug dealers on her mission to find Ruby.”

Isabelle stars as Juno, with Natalie Brown (FX’s The Strain) as Ruby.

The creature feature marks the feature debut by director Ashlea Wessel, who has directed festival-favorite shorts like 2018’s “Tick” and 2020’s “Weirdo”.

Wessel co-writes Junction Row with Clown in a Cornfield author Adam Cesare and Matt Serafini.

Katharine Isabelle is coming off a brief appearance in Kane Parsons’ Backrooms, and more recently appeared in holiday horror It’s a Wonderful Knife. The horror icon is arguably best known for her turn as the eponymous werewolf in Ginger Snaps and for her roles in American Mary and Freddy vs Jason.

Fantasia teases that Junction Row tells “a story where the fear of the unknown isn’t confined to what lies above, but what waits beneath.”

Unholy Night is set to make its World Premiere at the Fantasia International Film Festival, where writer/director Michael Gabriele‘s horror short “Get Away” won the Gold Audience Award for Best International Short in 2023.

In Unholy Night, “Gino’s traditional family Christmas Eve turns into a bloody battle for survival when his long-dead grandma drops by and goes on a murderous rampage. Amid the chaos, Gino reunites with his ex and the dysfunctional duo must avoid his dead Italian relatives popping up all around the neighbourhood as they search for a way to get rid of these Yuletide revenants and survive his family Christmas.”

Marc Bendavid (“Dark Matter”), Shailene Garnett (“Shadowhunters”), Al Sapienza (“The Sopranos”), Ron Lea (“Orphan Black”), Toni Ellwand (“Hannibal”), Cristina Rosato (Mother!), Jacqueline Robbins (“A Series of Unfortunate Events”), and Joe Pingue (Antiviral) star.

Gabriele, making his feature debut, drew inspiration for his bloody holiday horror movie from growing up in an Italian family. “Unholy Night was crafted to deliver not only a captivating horror experience but also to serve as a poignant exploration of cultural complexities and the universal quest for identity and respect,” the filmmaker said in his director’s statement.

Unholy Night was produced by Gabriele alongside Jenna MacMillan of Club Red Productions and Jason Levangie and Marc Tetreault of Shut Up & Colour Pictures (Kids vs Aliens). Executive producers are Tina Carbone, Jef Burnham, Mike Chapman, and Fatima Hayward.

“The Fated Hour” will begin its festival run this summer, with Severin Films handling the film’s North American release.

The synopsis: “Austria, 1810. Three days before her wedding, Florentine visits the grave of her younger sister Seraphine — brilliant, otherworldly, and gone too soon. As the ceremony approaches, Florentine finds herself unable to share in her bridegroom Bruno’s joy. Over dinner, she recounts to him the strange and melancholy story of Seraphine’s life and death — and of the dark legacy she left behind. Soon it becomes clear that Florentine is not merely mourning her sister…“

Alina Schaller (Breaking the Ice), Fanny Altenburger (Counterpart), Cornelius Obonya, and Daniel Holzberg (The Zone of Interest) star. 

The short is a 19th-century period piece set in Austria based on Friedrich Laun’s short story “The Relationship with the Spirit World,” famously cited as a key influence on Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein.

Shot on location in Austria, the film is produced by Hengl and Lola Basara of Vienna-based Capra Film with support from Stadt Wien Kultur (MA7) and the Lower Austrian Film Commission.

“The Fated Hour” was commissioned by Kier-La Janisse with Severin’s founders, David Gregory and Carl Daft, as Executive Producers.

“I’m very excited to have Peter Hengl’s Austrian ghost story joining our growing family of original gothic shorts,” said Janisse. “Especially with all the incredible heritage locations and rich period detail.“

Hengl added: “The oldest gothic dread is always the most modern: that fate cannot be outrun. I was fortunate to explore this timeless story alongside performers who understood completely that the past and the present are never truly separate—that some things bleed through. For the production, we used analog distortions like various lenses and mirrors not just to evoke a retro vibe, but also to represent the spirit world in the film.“

Se-jeong and a group of survivors must fight to stay alive as the infected undergo horrific transformations and threaten to spread the virus.

Colony marks Gianna Jun’s (Blood: The Last Vampire, “My Sassy Girl”) first feature film since 2015’s Assassination. She stars alongside Koo Kyo-hwan (Peninsula, Escape from Mogadishu). 

“With Colony, [Sang-ho] takes the intensity and scale even further, delivering a bold and terrifying new vision for fans,” teases Doris Pfardrescher, President and CEO of Well Go USA.

Lady Death is currently in production outside Adelaide, South Australia, we’ve learned. The upcoming horror movie, it’s interesting to note, lives in the same heightened, epic and gore-splattered WWII universe as Kiah Roache-Turner’s recent shark attack movie Beast of War!

Masha Basman stars as ‘Lady Death’ with Robert Maaser as ‘Hans Bothman.’

In Lady Death, a crack team of British Commandos are forced into an unholy alliance, when lost in a primeval forest on the Eastern Front, with Soviet sniper, the legendary ‘Lady Death’ (newcomer Masha Basman), and two demented SS officers – and twins – played in gleeful dual roles by German actor Robert Maaser (Blood & Gold, Ballerina).

Together the unlikely team must navigate the perils of the forest, including its most ferocious residents: wolves, born of an ancient bloodline, horrifically outsized, led by a giant alpha and remorselessly hunting as a pack. Only with Lady Death – herself an apex predator, and inspired by the real-life heroine Lyudmila Pavlichenko, who notched some 309 Nazi kills during the war – do the team have any chance of surviving the forested hellscape.

A chilling new chapter in supernatural horror is preparing to consume audiences as director, and co-writer Ryan Kelly unleashes the occult thriller Five Must Die.

Five Must Die is said to be a high-concept supernatural thriller that fuses the tension of Ready or Not and the meta-horror energy of The Cabin in the Woods with the conspiracy edge of Men in Black and the supernatural flair of Ghostbusters.

Co-written by David Landau, the film stars Beth Broderick (“Sabrina the Teenage Witch”) alongside Jared P-Smith (“The Equalizer”) and an ensemble cast.

In Five Must Die, six strangers awaken trapped inside a sprawling mansion. None of them know each other, and none understand why they are there — until an agent from the Federal Bureau of Paranormal Containment informs them that a violent spirit has marked them as its targets.

As paranoia, fear, and supernatural attacks tear the group apart, the mansion becomes a crucible where hidden pasts are revealed, and moral choices turn deadly. The line between possession, free will, and vengeance begins to blur, and only those willing to confront their guilt may have a chance to survive.

“I’ve always loved films that are contained to a single location, and I’m a big fan of ensemble casts,” says Ryan Kelly. “This project brings those elements together and filters them through horror, comedy, and a bit of an Agatha Christie-style mystery. That combination — tight, character-driven, but still fun, unpredictable, and surprising — is exactly the kind of movie I love to watch.”

Kelly continues, “I wanted to create something in the spirit of the films I grew up with — high-concept stories with strong characters, big audience moments, and real emotion beneath the spectacle. Los Vampires will make its World Premiere at the 30th edition of the Fantasia International Film Festival, which runs July 16 through August 2.

Watch the stunning new trailer below, which sees art imitate life horrifically, in the vein of Shadow of the Vampire.

The film is set in 1930 Hollywood, and follows as “a Spanish actor is cast in the night shoot of a soon-to-be-legendary vampire film, forced to imitate the English-speaking star who performs the same role by day. The two actors regularly meet at the transitory hours of their shoots, and a rivalry stirs between them. All the while, a string of murders are occurring on and around the soundstage.”

Note that the actor and star in the film’s premise aren’t named; Los Vampires is a “fantastical fictionalized account” of the making of Melford’s classic horror film, one that was shot overnight on the same sets as Tod Browning’s Dracula. That means that names have respectfully been altered.

Los Vampires is written and directed by Craig Mitchell (Komodo), who has lined up an impressive cast.

Lost actor Henry Ian Cusick and Spectre actor Thomas Kretschmann lead as uncanny surrogates for Carlos Villarías and Bela Lugosi.

Daniela Couso (Serial Beauty), Jefferson Mays (Inherent Vice), Oscar Nuñez (“The Office”), and Jorge Diaz (Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones) round out the cast.

Fantasia describes the feature as “a meticulously designed, occult-tinged tribute to the dignity of performance… and a darkly imaginative, bittersweet love letter to old Hollywood – and the forgotten struggles that made it what it was.”

Damian Maffei (The Strangers: Prey At Night, Wrong Turn, Haunt) stars in The Space Between. Watch the teaser trailer below, and also find the official poster underneath.

Maffei plays Rick, an overnight security guard working inside a once-bustling shopping mall after closing. While quietly carrying the grief of losing his daughter, Rick clings to the structure of his nightly routine as a form of stability. Over the course of a single shift, that routine begins to fracture as something unseen retraces his every step.

Kate Kiddo (Black Eyed Susan, The Events Surrounding a Peeping Tom) co-stars in the liminal horror movie as Dispatch, Rick’s only point of contact during the night. She is a calm and steady voice guiding him through his rounds as the system he relies on begins to break down.

Production took place inside an operational Midwestern mall, utilizing real locations after hours to ground the film’s surveillance-driven psychological horror and liminal atmosphere. Built through a lean independent model, the production focused on performance, practical environments, and atmosphere.

Filmmakers were granted unlimited access to more than 96,000 square feet of retail, corridor, and back-of-house space for critical sequences, allowing the production to capture the scale, emptiness, and unsettling realism of a functioning mall after dark.

Writer/director Joshua Garity tells Bloody Disgusting, “The original image that helped define the internet’s idea of liminal horror was traced back to Wisconsin, and that matters because those are the kinds of spaces I grew up in. They were once the heartbeat of a community, but many of them have slowly eroded into something more unnerving. Half-empty malls that still echo with laughter, if you listen closely and strip away the fresh coats of paint. The Space Between comes from that same Midwestern familiarity. It’s not about recreating Backrooms, but about exploring why these spaces stay with you: the absence, the repetition, and the feeling that a place you know is somehow watching you back.”

Don’t Move adapts the 2020 novel of the same name from co-authors Murray and Darren Wearmouth, unleashing a prehistoric arachnid upon an unsuspecting church group’s annual retreat. It’s massive, and it hunts by vibration.

The creature feature is the first under Murray’s new banner, Impractical Studios, designed to bring his authored works and love of horror to mainstream audiences.

Murray has big plans for Impractical Studios; the multihyphenate talent teases an adaptation of his holiday slasher novel as he explains the origins of his new label. “The idea for that was I’ve written nine thriller novels with major publishing houses: three with Harper Collins, three with Penguin Random House, two with Blackstone, two with St. Martin’s Press. Big publishing houses. The idea being that I would create the IP, create the big ideas.

“I love horror so much, and I love writing thrillers. I have a degree in English and literature. So, the idea was that I would create the worlds I want to see on film and then eventually partner with people like McLean, who adapted Don’t Move into the screenplay. Don’t Move comes out this September, and then next year, we’re going to make You Better Watch Out, my serial killer thriller I wrote, and then so-and-so forth down the line.“

Murray Thinks the Movie is Better Than the Book

T-Pain and Russ in Don’t Move

Don’t Move wasn’t the first novel Murray authored, but it was the first of his books that longtime friend Maclain Nelson read. That proved to be the true origin of this creature feature. “I actually felt like a bad friend because he’d written all these novels, and I’m like, ‘Buddy, I feel bad. I haven’t read any of your books,” Nelson tells Bloody Disgusting. “And I said, ‘What should I start with?‘ I was at his house one weekend, he looked through all the books he wrote, and he’s like, ‘Here, take Don’t Move.‘ He’s like, ‘I think that’s a quick read. I think you’ll like it.‘“

Nelson fell instantly for the novel: “So, I disappeared for four hours. He thought I left, and I just read it. I read it in one sitting. The story really caught me. I thought it was so fun. It really reminded me of one of my favorite movies, Tremors, in that it follows this group of people. Some sci-fi is happening. They don’t know what it is. They have to figure it out together. They have to come together as a community. I said, ‘Man, James, this is a movie. We got to make this.‘ He’s like, ‘Well, I do TV. What do we do?‘ And I said, ‘Let me take a stab at the script. If you like it, let’s move.‘ I sat down, really ingested the book, and a month later, we had a screenplay.“

Not only did Nelson adapt Murray and Wearmouth’s novel, but he also directed the feature, which Murray is the first to praise for surpassing his material.

“I hate to say it, but the movie’s better than the book, which never happens. It never happens.“

Murray credits Nelson’s direction especially. “Largely because of Maclain Nelson’s skills with actors and with heart and emotion; he added a whole layer to the movie that’s not in the book, which is that it’s got real heart. You care for these characters; you actually want these people to survive, and they often don’t, and it really is heartbreaking. So it’s got a lot of heart, a lot of depth, and it’s really funny. The book is not funny. The book is a slaughterhouse because Darren and I love killing people. But the movie has a lot more heart and comedy than the book did. So, I hate to say it. I love to say it, but the movie’s better than the book. And I can say it, I’m the author.“

Nelson emphasizes that while Don’t Move does have heart and humor, it’s horror through and through. “We obviously have a shift in the movie where it really gets real, but it’s supposed to be these people in this community coming together to be in the woods. So there should be some light moments. We’re not cracking jokes near the end when things are getting really serious, but to set everything up and to get to know people, you want to be there with them, and it just endears you to them as one by one,” Nelson explains.

Murray agrees. “I love horror even more than comedy,” he tells BD. “It’s so weird that I have been doing ‘Impractical Jokers’ for so, so long. But for me, what makes a horror movie great is when smart people make good decisions facing impossible odds, and sometimes it works out, and sometimes it doesn’t. When characters on screen are making the dumbest decisions possible, I check out as a viewer. I’m like, come on, man, no one is this stupid. So one of the hallmarks of all of my books, and then Don’t Move as well, is that these people are smart people and they’re making good choices and they still lose, but sometimes they win. That’s a good, compelling movie today.“

Smart Characters, Impossible Odds

Don’t Move, Murray and Nelson tease, comes out of the gate swinging. Murray praises Nelson’s changes to the book’s cold open, “It’s pure horror. Our lead character, Megan Forrester, who’s played by Lyndsy Fonseca, who is amazing and so charismatic and so warm and likable, goes through an unspeakable tragedy that unfolds rapid fire. It is fast-paced. It’s one of the rides at an amusement park, the swing ride just goes out of control and groans and creeks as people start spinning around in the chairs, they can’t get out.“

Fonseca leads an ensemble cast alongside Russell “Russ” Vitale. Tom Cavanagh (The Flash), Hunter King (Life in Pieces), Rob Riggle (The Hangover), and Joseph Lee Anderson (Young Rock) also star. Expect plenty of cameos including T-Pain, Matt Biedel, and “Impractical Jokers” member Brian Quinn.

The film marks the first lead role for Russ, who immediately won over Murray and Nelson. “The first time I Zoomed with him and just his voice, the quality of his voice, the swagger, his look, I was like, ‘This is Ricky Vargas,'” Nelson says. “Ricky in the book, he’s joining the church camping trip. Imagine the type of people. I grew up very religious. I went on a ton of church camping trips, and never once did a guy like Ricky Vargas come on the church camping trip. So, it needed to be this perfect human, the perfect character that you don’t expect and shows up, but has this likability and ability to ingratiate himself with the very different crowd, but then also you don’t know what he’s doing. He’s got some shady motives. And man, we have a new movie star out there because he took it all on.“

Competing for star status on Don’t Move, of course, is the behemoth monster hunting human prey.

How Real Spiders Inspired Don’t Move’s Prehistoric Arachnid

Don’t expect to see the prehistoric monster in its full glory ahead of release, but Nelson’s approach to designing the arachnid might induce arachnophobia all the same. The director studied spiders up close for months, picking different features from a variety of species for maximum skin-crawling terror.

“For six months, this was my research for the spider, because we created our own way on how it moves and whatnot. I would be in my backyard, I would lie down on this cot, and I would just look straight down at the grass. I was shocked at how many spiders would just come across anytime you are outside. I’d watch the spiders, how they move, some that would do a little thing and then hop and do a little thing and then hop. I saw this one that had these crazy crab arms, the front four were way longer, and the back ones were shorter.

“I just started documenting and making characteristics of all these different spiders that I liked and that were creepy. We built with our CGI artists all the creepiest little intricacies of all these different spiders and created our own kind of super spider.”

“It’s like an alien,” Murray says of this movie’s monster. “It really is. It moves like an alien. It doesn’t think as we do. There’s no reasoning with it. And that’s what I love about Don’t Move, the book and the movie. The horror mimics my favorite horror movie all the time, The Descent, which I think is brilliant. It mimics that kind of horror in the same kind of ways. It works on three levels: It’s human versus the other, which is this creature that cannot be reasoned with, can’t be logicked with it whatsoever. You can’t talk your way around it, right? It’s completely alien.“

He continues, “Then it’s human versus each other because of the inner dynamics of the group. It’s a group setting. They have different motives. They have different pasts that conflict, and it’s the constant conflict between those personalities and then the human versus, in this case, herself. It’s Megan Forrester versus her own trauma that she went through at the beginning of the movie. She’s got to overcome her own past in order to succeed and win and survive at the end.“

That neither Nelson nor Murray is known for horror makes this feature all the more rewarding for the pair, who forged their own path in getting Don’t Move made after a lot of rejections. “Maclain Nelson, Jordan to my Peele,” Murray jokes, acknowledging that studios still haven’t seemed to fully recognize how well horror and comedy go hand-in-hand, particularly in the comedian-to-horror-filmmaker pipeline.

“Not a lot of people believed in this. It’s why we had to do it ourselves. It’s why we didn’t get a studio to back it. We had to go prove it ourselves. We didn’t get invited to the party. We had to create our own,” Nelson says.

Murray agrees, “That’s what indie horror movie making is all about: doing it. I’m really proud of that. That’s what I’m most excited about, that moment before the first time it premiered since September in that first theater, sitting there next to my buddy, my friend for life, and saying, ‘God dammit, man. We made it. We made a horror movie, and it’s good, and I think people will like it.’ And that should be celebrated, man. It’s so hard to do.“

Tickets are on sale now for the Kansas City premiere at the Midland Theater on September 8 and the Los Angeles premiere at the TCL Chinese Theater on September 9, ahead of Don’t Move‘s theatrical release on September 11.

In writer/director Phil Volken’s The Bay, “When their tour boat sinks in a shark sanctuary, two best friends must fight for survival to escape the shark-infested waters.”

The film will be opening in theaters and on demand on July 17, 2026.

In H.R. Bloodengutz Presents: A Halloween Fright-Tacular!: “Fan-favorite creature feature host, Larry Kurtzberg (better known as H.R. Bloodengutz), returns in this all-new haunted house. After his descension into violent madness where he tortured his crew when his show was canceled (as featured in HHN 21), H.R. Bloodengutz has escaped from prison to return to WKNB Television Station for a final Halloween Special of gruesome proportions.”

Halloween Horror Nights show director Ramón Paradoa gave Bloody Disgusting the exclusive details on what to expect.

The Lore Behind A Halloween Fright-Tacular!

For its 35th edition, Halloween Horror Nights is bringing back fan favorites like Jack the Clown and Dr. Oddfellow. That also includes the return of a certain creature feature host, who was first unleashed in 2011’s H.R. Bloodengutz Presents: Holidays of Horror before making a brief appearance in 2021’s Welcome to SCarey: Horror in the Heartland.

“This is a sequel to an HHN classic,” Paradoa explains. “And the return of a very beloved character for our fan base. We’ve played with the idea of creating more story within H.R. Bloodengutz’s lore for a while, and this year the stars aligned, and it finally felt like the right opportunity. It’s been 15 years since that first haunted house in 2011, so we liked the idea of 15 years later, Carey’s favorite creature feature host returns for another bout of fun.”

This new house picks up 15 years later from Holidays of Horror‘s conclusion, where H.R. Bloodengutz has been incarcerated in the Carey Penitentiary since. Now, “he has finally broken out of prison on Halloween Day. He has returned to the WKNB television studio to present a Halloween marathon of straight-to-TV Halloween films that were his favorites that he never got to showcase back when he was working 15 years prior.”

In other words, the HHN horror host is curating his own holiday horror marathon for you, the guest.

Paradoa also provides a handy recap of H.R. Bloodengutz’s first outing, just to illustrate what kind of maniac is being unleashed on HHN 35. “In the events of that first haunted house, he ended up taking his producer hostage when he found out that his show and himself were getting the ax. He didn’t take that news very well. He decided to hold his producer hostage, to host that marathon that we saw the first go around, and things ended horribly, and ultimately ended with his arrest. He’s coming back 15 years later to have a little bit of Halloween fun this time, focusing specifically on the holiday of Halloween.”

The Return of Horror Host H.R. Bloodengutz

Among the many reasons Halloween Horror Nights remains such a holiday fixture is the creative team’s dedication to detail. That’s quite a feat when you consider the intricate lore developed over 35 years.

One key detail to note with H.R. Bloodengutz Presents: A Halloween Fright-Tacular! is that not only is it tracking the horror host’s story progression, it’ll also feature the same actor portraying him.

Paradoa reminds that it’s been over a decade since Larry Kurtzburg snapped in his 2011 haunt; time and a prison stay have altered the horror host as we last saw him. “He has a new look to him that is leaning into his imprisonment. I’ll leave it at that,” the HHN show director teases.

“Since he’s escaping straight from prison and returning to the derelict studio, he tries to piece together his former look as much as he can, but there’s a fun little twist to how he looks this go around. And he’s older because we were able to work with the original actor who played Bloodengutz in 2011, to reprise his role,” Paradoa notes. “So, we’re getting an authentic, older version of the character in this new haunted house that is being played by the original actor, which again, our fans are going to love.”

What can fans expect with his appearance this time?

H.R. Bloodengutz will host one demented Halloween marathon. “What I’ll say about that without giving too much away is that there are seven movies that we’re presenting as scenes in the haunted house; seven movies that are a part of the marathon. Some of those movies are callbacks to HHN’s past.”

In true horror host fashion, “You’re going to get to see him in video format in between each of those movies, and he’s going to essentially usher you into the next movie.” H.R. Bloodengutz will also introduce the house itself and its backstory in queue line videos, too, like the original 2011 haunt, “where H.R. Bloodengutz told the story of each of the movies that he was presenting, and then his own story. We’re doing a queue line video for our guests, outside of this haunted house, where they’re going to get to see H.R. Bloodengutz in this new role, telling this new story, and preparing us for the Halloween Frightacular. Again, that is in collaboration with the original man himself, so we’re very excited for our fans to experience that.”

A True Halloween Extravanza

Unlike Holiday of Horrors, A Halloween Fright-Tacular! is dedicated solely to Halloween. With H.R. Bloodengutz’s demented marathon, that’s seven different ways to explore the holiday, something that Paradoa and the creative team really took to heart. The test, of course, was ensuring Halloween still feels fresh.

“Once we knew that the holiday of Halloween and the world of horror cinema was our playground, we knew that there was a lot to tap into,” Paradoa said. “There are so many different Halloween-based tropes that people know and love. We were really inspired by that, and we wanted to make sure that when you’re being transported into the worlds of these movies, although they have the throughline of Halloween, they’re all completely unique from each other. That they all have a very distinct feel, and they present environments and characters that again, are rooted in what you’d expect out of classic Halloween textures, but are different from each other.”

“To tease you on some of those kinds of things, for example, one of the movies that he’s presenting is a black and white zombie film in an old graveyard.”

This house will cover just about every aspect of the beloved holiday. “We have some classic Halloween textures there. Another one is a Halloween party that is taking place inside a tiki bar that is overtaken by monsters of the night. So, different things like that, where we have different aggressors and different environments, but they’re all tied into the world of Halloween and kind of what you’d expect out of that Halloween comfort food kind of feel when it comes to monsters, zombies, skeletons, ghosts, those kinds of things. So, each film, each scene is going to feel very unique, but all based in the world of Halloween, which is really fun.”

As a massive horror fan himself, nailing the spirit of Halloween was of utmost importance to Paradoa. “It is all centered around that holiday, and I think this house almost being representative of the holiday within our slate we were really, really excited about, so I wanted to make sure that it felt authentic and captured that magical feeling of Halloween in every way we could.”

H.R. Bloodengutz Presents: A Halloween Fright-Tacular! may be a sequel house, but one made thoroughly accessible to newcomers through its unique setup and Halloween atmospherics.

Paradoa sums it up well: “The great thing about this house, of course, is that it’s expanding upon a lore that we established 15 years ago, but it also pays tribute to a couple of different things. It pays tribute to the idea of a classic Halloween haunted house. We call these houses Halloween comfort food, and we’ve done them throughout the course of our history, and this house checks off that vibe.”

This year’s Halloween Horror Nights event begins on Friday, August 28 at Universal Orlando Resort and Thursday, September 3 at Universal Studios Hollywood. Tickets are on sale now.

Kino Cult is bringing a new 2K restoration to US theaters on August 7, after it makes its World Premiere at the prestigious Festival Il Cinema Ritrovato in Bologna (Festival of Rediscovered Cinema).

Arguably featuring more authentic on-screen deaths than the original Faces of Death, Hell’s Highway isn’t for the squeamish despite its kitschy tone.

We’re exclusively unveiling the trailer for this morbid curiosity that aims to scare drivers straight with grisly depictions of highway-induced death.

Hell’s Highway is an “exploration of the near mythical driver education films shown to American schoolchildren in the 1960s and ‘70s. Produced between 1959 and 1979 in Mansfield, Ohio, films such as Signal 30 (1959) encouraged safety by force-feeding high school kids color footage of careless driving’s dark consequences: blood-stained wreckage, injured bodies, fresh corpses.

“In the 1970s and ’80s, these traumatic films disappeared from the American classroom and assumed an almost mythical status. Eager to document this obscure chapter of cinema history, filmmaker and restorationist Bret Wood compiled these vanishing artifacts of grim Americana into a feature, and interviewed the filmmakers responsible for this misguided educational movement.”

Originally produced in 2002 in standard-definition video, this new edition of Hell’s Highway has been reconstructed through the remastering of the original 16mm interview footage, as new restorations of the original educational films which appear throughout the documentary.

David Edelstein of Filmmaker Magazine called this “A Lynchian view of the nightmarish underbelly of middle America,” as seen in the new poster below, accurately describing this wild shockumentary that casts an unflinching eye on road death.

The author of The Only Good Indians, My Heart is a Chainsaw, and dozens of other entries in the modern horror canon has built a reputation for two things: Chilling fiction and a jaw-droppingly prolific output, and today we can exclusively reveal the next story he’s unleashing on readers. 

On March 9, 2027, Jones and Saga Press will release Ears, a new haunted house horror novella about a down-on-his-luck man who finds an unlucky ally in the ghost of a child in footie pajamas, complete with bunny ears on top. 

Here’s the official synopsis:

“Mr. Morning Gun, the hapless narrator of this first person novella, is a disgraced history teacher who now is an unhoused person who is largely living within his electric car and the empty homes he looks after for local real estate agencies in a specific way: He flushes the empty houses toilets to keep, primarily, the wax seals on the toilets fresh, and the plumbing flowing. For this he gets a bit of money under table. One day, at “The Messner House” he gets caught by an aggressive realtor having a tryst, and the ghost of the previous owners’ missing child intervenes, killing the couple, and saving the former teacher and he finds himself embroiled into an ever-increasing layer of cover-ups as the girl in the lavender footie pajamas keeps killing folks to keep the house empty, except for him.”

What inspired a story like this? For Jones, it began with something very practical, which quickly morphed into a new expression of horror. 

“I was wondering if the chargers for electric cars are universal or not, but didn’t know how to phrase a search to figure that out, so I had to figure it out the only way I know how: with a story—with horror,” Jones told Bloody Disgusting. “With, as it turned out, a haunted house. So, now I know that they probably are universal. And that that leads to… to bad things.” 

Bloody Disgusting is pleased to exclusively reveal the haunting cover for Ears, designed by Luisa Dias.

Ears is the latest entry in Jones’ always-busy publishing schedule, which includes a new novel, Off the Reservation, arriving this fall from Saga. Beginning next spring, Saga will also reissue three of Jones’ earlier horror works for a new generation of readers, delivering new editions of Demon Theory, The Last Final Girl, and Growing Up Dead In Texas.

Those reissues don’t have firm release dates yet, but you can expect Ears to arrive on March 9, 2027.

Rose of Nevada opens in New York and Los Angeles theaters on June 19, 2026.

In the film, “Three decades ago, the Rose of Nevada vanished at sea, along with its crew. Now, it has returned. In a remote fishing village, its reappearance is embraced as an auspicious sign, with the local citizens convinced the luck of their economically devastated community may turn, if only the ship sails again. Joining the crew is Nick (George MacKay), desperate to provide for his young family, and Liam (Callum Turner), a mysterious drifter eager to escape his past. After a successful voyage, they return to harbor, only to find that nothing is as they remember it.”

Edward Rowe, Francis Magee, Rosaline Eleazar, and Adrian Rawlins also star.

Written, directed, edited, and scored by Mark Jenkin, Rose and Nevada closes out the filmmaker’s Cornish trilogy that also includes shot-on-film folk horror nightmare Enys Men and 2019’s Bait. All three films in the experimental series are set along the Cornish coast and were shot on a 16mm Bolex camera.

It’s also worth noting that Woodvine, who appears in the below clip in effective age makeup, and Rowe also starred in the trilogy’s previous installments.

The film is described as a “hallucinatory time-travel mystery.” The press release notes, “Jenkin conducts a cinematic séance, conjuring a portal into another world that forces us to confront the past and our relationship to it.”

The behemoth beast from the deep is the latest kaiju-sized aquatic creature harboring a horde of bloodthirsty parasites, joining the likes of Cloverfield and Underwater. Naturally, the Kraken itself serves as the much bigger threat.

It’s also about time that the Kraken received its own feature; though Meg 2: The Trench featured a Kraken-like beast in its climax, the Kraken hasn’t been fully unleashed since Clash of the Titans.

Ahead of its world premiere at the 25th Tribeca Film Festival, we have an exclusive clip that sees scare actors in training for the Halloween season. The catch? This haunt is opening at the historic Pennhurst State School & Hospital site, a facility that caused immense harm to its disabled patients over decades of its operation.

In the documentary, “For over seventy years, Pennhurst State School & Hospital was called a place of care. What happened inside killed over half its population. It closed in 1987, leaving behind unmarked graves and an unresolved history. Today, on those same grounds, disabled performers – many living with the same conditions that once sent people to Pennhurst – put on their makeup, pull on their costumes, and prepare to scare people for a living.

“Through grit, compassion, and buckets of blood, the eclectic performers of the Pennhurst Asylum haunted attraction are wrestling with a space that is at once a lucrative business and a gravesite.”

The upcoming documentary hails from directing trio Nathan Stenberg, Mike Attie, and Katarina Poljak, who explore their socially-relevant subject through archival footage, first-hand accounts, and an immersive verité.

“Pennhurst has haunted us since we first passed through its dragon-tooth gates; the horrors of the institution echo through the site today. We are so grateful to bring this film to the Tribeca Festival, particularly the Escape from Tribeca section, which feels right for a story where past and present bleed together. We hope audiences leave unnerved and asking the same uncomfortable questions we did,” Attie, Stenberg, and Poljak said in a statement.

Mutter: The Diary of a Mother is written and directed by Alphan Eşeli, who told Bloody Disgusting of the teaser, “I wanted to make a film where beauty, love, and horror could exist in the same frame.” 

The filmmaker is drawing from his personal experience with Mutter; the film was written while his mother was dying.

Eşeli notes in his director’s statement for the film, “Mutter is not about monsters, but about the strange transformations that occur when creation and loss share the same space. The creature became a mirror for everything we try to hide, the beauty, the guilt, the hunger to be seen, and the fear of letting go.”

As for mom’s terrifying new baby, the creature is designed by Australian artist Matt Hatton (Alien: Covenant, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga).

Hazar Ergüçlü leads the cast as Gül. Hazar Ergüçlü, Erdeniz Kurucan, Ulvi Kahyaoğlu, Cansu Fırıncı, Cem Baza, and Bertan Dirikolu also star.

I wrote in my review, “The Furious is 112 minutes of wall-to-wall, hard-hitting, martial arts action. It may not be quite as expertly crafted as The Raid or as hyper-violent as The Night Comes For Us, but in a post-Epstein world, it’s incredibly satisfying to watch child traffickers get their comeuppance.”

The Furious is rated R for “strong bloody violence and language.”

Drawing inspiration from genre standouts like Tucker and Dale vs. Evil, Hatchet, and The Cabin in the Woods, the film blends visceral horror with moments of dark humor, creating a uniquely balanced experience that honors tradition while carving its own identity.

Writer-director Dillon Brown (Primal Darkness) aims to deliver everything fans crave from a slasher while boldly subverting expectations with a mid-film twist that redefines the story.

“This is an unapologetic love letter to the films that made me fall in love with horror,” Brown tells Bloody Disgusting. “But I didn’t just want to recreate that feeling; I wanted to challenge it. About halfway through, the film takes a turn that completely changes how you view not only this story, but the genre itself.”

Brown describes the vintage-inspired production as “far and away the bloodiest film I’ve ever made,” with practical effects helmed by Cody Ruch (The Mill, Pig Hill), an instructor at Tom Savini’s Special Make-Up Effects Program.

From Horror Dadz Productions, A Man in the Woods With an Axe is currently in production and targeting an early 2027 release.

We can exclusively unveil Tribeca’s new limited edition poster below that assembles all of Escape from Tribeca’s titles in stylish fashion.

The new poster will be available in-person only at the Tribeca Film Festival, kicking off June 3-14 in NYC. 

Escape From Tribeca is described as the festival’s fan-focused haven for late-night thrills and no-holds-barred cult cinema, and that’s certainly reflected in the lineup that includes the post-apocalyptic horror thriller Hallowarrior, genre doc Death Boom, and Recluse starring  Toby Poser of the Adams’ family (Mother of Flies, Hellbender).

Director Jason Zink and writer Nolan Mihail return for the sequel to last year’s found footage horror film Looky-loo.

Continuing where the first film left off, the looky-loo killer’s newfound infamy encourages him to push his crimes to further extremes as he documents his sadistic ventures, adding a new metatextual element to the film.

Julie Kashmanian, Kansas Bowling (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood), Jessa Flux (Murdercise), Kali Malia Michaels (Never Hike Alone 2), and Siane Wilson star.

Zink’s Weird on Top Pictures produces along with Erin Mathew and Bobby Chastain.

“From the beginning, Looky-loo was intended as a trilogy,” Zink tells Bloody Disgusting. “So, everything we withheld in part one, we deliver on with part two. He thinks this is his opus… but he’s still just getting started.”

Fresh off its Best Director win at Crimson Screen, Looky-loo: Part II‘s upcoming festival screenings include Recovered Reels in Quakertown, PA, on May 29 and Hysteria Fest in St. Louis, MO, on July 9.

Kino Lorber is unleashing a gorgeous new 4K restoration next month, and we’re exclusively unveiling the trailer.

The new 4K restoration of The Devil Queen blends crime, camp, and social realism and will be released in NYC theaters on June 12 and LA on June 17 before expanding on June 19, 2026.

The film has been difficult to access outside of Brazil. Kleber Mendonça Filho, who contributed to the new restoration, praises The Devil Queen as a “bloody, nasty and full of personality“, a “Brazilian Gem” not to be missed. 

In The Devil Queen, “Rio de Janeiro’s criminal underworld is run by an unexpected boss: Diaba, a femme queen with a taste for power and violence. When the police come after her boy toy, Diaba attempts to find a scapegoat to take the blame, and a plot to dethrone Her Majesty arises! Always clad in gloriously colourful outfits and accessories inspired by Afro-Brazilian culture, Diaba runs a mob of eccentric misfits made up of drag queens, pimps, prostitutes, and queer folks of all stripes.“

Directed by Antônio Carlos de Fontoura during Brazil’s military dictatorship, the film reimagines gangster dos Santos as an early ’70s representation of queerness.

Milton Gonçalves stars as the eponymous Devil Queen, Diaba.

“The plot I developed with the playwright Plinio Marcos leads the film to its bloody end, but the film, like all the films I love, goes far beyond the story it is telling. What fascinated me as a director was the possibility to invent a different reality, distant of all polite limits, in camera movements, in strident sound, in art collages, in set decoration, in costumes, in piercing music, in the red of the blood, in the gold of the sequins,” de Fontoura said in his director’s statement.

The Devil Queen was restored by CinemaScópio and Cinelimite.

Ian McCulloch, star of Lucio Fulci’s Zombie, returns to the screen for the first time in over a decade to lead the psychological horror film.

Set within the confines of a 1950s psychiatric hospital, the film unfolds through a series of recorded patient interviews that gradually uncover a deeply disturbing reality hidden beneath the institution’s calm exterior. As fractured testimonies begin to overlap, a sinister presence known only as the “Shadow Man” emerges from the darkness at the centre of the hospital’s experiments.

Megan Tremethick, Novarro Ramon, Dorian Todd, and Michael Daviot round out the ensemble.

Produced by British Horror Studio in collaboration with The B-Team, the film is directed by Lawrie Brewster (Lord of Tears) and written by Sam Ashurst.

“Ian brought an extraordinary level of experience and discipline to the production. His presence not only elevated the film, but inspired our younger cast to push themselves further than ever before,” Brewster says. “Working with him has been an honor I will carry with me for the rest of my life.”

Chronicles of Depression will have a special preview screening at the Romford Film Festival in London this Sunday, May 24.

It’s no wonder that for several years now, various parties, including no less a horror giant than James Wan, have been trying to get a film adaptation off the ground. Development on The Troop movie has been relatively quiet recently, but while speaking to Bloody Disgusting about his new book The Dorians, Cutter did offer a brief, optimistic update.

“Well, there is [an update], which is to say the wheels keep spinning,” Cutter said. “It is in the hands right now of a company called Lyrical, who is excellent, and they’ve got a script that they like.”

Lyrical Media is the production company behind recent acclaimed films like How to Blow Up a Pipeline and Elevation, and their other developing projects include upcoming films from James Tynion IV and Adam Wingard. Those feel like good hands for The Troop to be in, so what’s holding things up? According to Cutter, it’s all about finding the right partner, something the project recently lost.

“I can’t say the name of it, but a very popular production company, a very well-known and well-regarded and really good production company had it, but then they signed a big deal with a studio,” Cutter explained. “In that case, they had to dissolve their co-partnership because the studio doesn’t want them developing [pre-existing deals]. They want them developing brand new stuff in-house.”

Originally published in 2014, The Troop follows the title group of young scouts as they head to a remote island for a weekend camping trip. Once there, they find a mysterious man with an insatiable hunger, and in trying to help him, they’re plunged into a body horror nightmare that moves like a horrific freight train. The book remains a favorite across social media and made Cutter into one of the most recognizable names in the horror lit landscape to this day.

The biggest movement on The Troop film so far came in 2019, when Wan’s Atomic Monster shingle picked up the rights and launched development on an adaptation. Now, with Atomic Monster’s merger with Blumhouse, it seems they’re no longer attached, but that hasn’t dimmed Cutter’s excitement. 

“Talks are ongoing,” Cutter said. “Let me say this: It is not defunct. It is not dead. That has been through so many iterations over the past decade or so. Different people have taken stabs at it. I remain hopeful that at some point it will see the light of day.”

Affection marks the feature debut by writer/director BT Meza, who also produces with Bay Dariz, Austin Walk, and JP Ouellette.

If the fall doesn’t kill you… he will. After playing on the film festival circuit to acclaim, gory survival horror movie Pitfall is coming to theaters nationwide on May 29, 2026.

Based on a story by director James Kondelik (Behind The Walls) and a screenplay by Canadian writer Victor Rose, Pitfall made its debut at Los Angeles’ Screamfest Film Festival in October 2025, earning praise from critics, who said it was “one of the major highlights” of the festival’s 25th year. The film was produced by Wai Sun Cheng and Alex Bogolomov for Vancouver-based production Pandapix Pictures in partnership with Dragon Bear Pictures.

In Pitfall, a young man becomes separated from his friends in the woods and plunges into a ten-foot pit lined with spikes, impaling his leg and leaving him helpless. As reality sinks in and his situation grows dire, he realizes the fall wasn’t an accident.

The film stars Richard Harmon (Final Destination: Bloodlines), Alexandra Essoe (The Pope’s Exorcist), and UFC champion Randy Couture (The Expendables) as the ruthless killer who stalks his prey in the woods. Marshall Williams (The Ice Road), Jordan Claire Robbins (The Umbrella Academy), and Matt Hamilton (Murder for Sale) also star.

After Penny’s jealous and troubled cousin decides a cruel prank is in order, what begins as a thoughtless spiked cupcake game spirals into a night of bloodshed and revenge.

Sophia Wright-Mendelsohn, Tahlee Fereday, Alexandra Jensen (Talk to Me), Bailey Spalding, Steve Le Marquand (Vertical Limit), Fletcher Humphrys (“Wolf Creek”), and Ben O’Toole (Hacksaw Ridge) star.

Writer-director Mia’Kate Russell makes her feature debut on the project, which premiered at the Adelaide Film Festival last October and will screen at next week’s Fantastic Film Festival Australia.

The film is the first outing from Sanctuary Pictures, the newly-launched production arm of Umbrella Entertainment, who produces alongside Buffalo Media and in association with Cyan Films. Julie Ryan (Late Night with the Devil), Ari Harrison (Talk to Me), Andre Lima, and Carly Maple produce.

Penny Lane Is Dead opens in Australia on July 23 via Umbrella. A North American release will be announced in the near future.
