1.) Absurd
Directed by Joe D’Amato under a pseudonym, this Video Nasty was released in some countries with ties to his other film Antropophagus, though the only actual connection between the two is that actor George Eastman plays the deranged killer in both. The plot centers on a priest helping a town rid itself of a madman that’s been genetically enhanced and on a killing spree. Extremely gory and violent, there’s no question that the bandsaw death is what landed this on the list. Distributors initially released both the theatrical cut version and the uncut version on video simultaneously with the same cover art, so it was successfully prosecuted and banned as a result. The uncut version finally passed through censors in 2016 for re-release.
