28.) The Evil Dead
Sam Raimi’s classic film was a notorious video nasty because it was the year’s best selling release and one that failed to successfully land its prosecution, but boy did they try. Perhaps it was Raimi’s unapologetic approach to the gore, but maybe it was really the infamous tree rape scene. Either way, the failed convictions (all 40 prosecutions from across the UK) meant The Evil Dead was dropped from the list. It was eventually passed uncut in 2001. Groovy.
