Wes Craven’s directorial debut also bears the distinction of being a prosecuted and banned Video Nasty. It was censored in many countries, but it faced the most controversy in the UK. As it remained banned throughout the ‘80s, the film began to pick up the attention of critics. In 1999, Last House on the Left toured horror festivals uncut, but was rejected for theatrical release after distributors refused to trim the film. Eventually, the film was finally released in 2002, but only after cuts were made. The UK didn’t get an uncut version until 2009.
