27.) The Driller Killer
Arguably the launching point of the movement behind the Video Nasties, and it was solely due to the film’s title and video box cover. Abel Ferrara’s directorial debut followed a New York artist struggling to make ends eventually takes his frustration out on the homeless. It’s more arthouse thriller than horror, and isn’t nearly as violent as the cover box and title would suggest. But as the poster child of the Video Nasties, it was successfully prosecuted. The film almost single-handedly responsible for the Video Nasties was finally passed and released uncut in the UK in 2002.
